Introduction
Cheadle Hulme School is a coeducational independent day school in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. Founded in 1855, it occupies 83 acres of land and offers a broad range of co-curricular activities. [1]
The educational provision in the Senior School is varied and relevant, allowing pupils to benefit from an exceptional standard of teaching in the following subject areas: art & design, science, classics, computing, drama & theatre, DT, English, food preparation & nutrition, MFL, humanities, mathematics, music and RS.
Trips abroad are arranged on a regular basis, expanding students’ cultural horizons whilst developing their tolerance and acceptance of differences. Destinations have included India, China, South Africa and Malaysia. [2]

To assess pupils for Year 7 entry, Cheadle Hulme School administers the CEM Select test. CEM Select is created by the Centre of Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM), which is part of Cambridge Assessment.

These tests will be taken in January of the calendar year of entry. Subject to successful performance, your child will be invited for an interview. References from their current school will be requested.
Offers are released in late February, to be accepted by the deadline in March.

As part of the assessment process for 11+ entry, your child will be asked to complete the CEM Select assessment.
The test contains a number of unusual question formats that your child is unlikely to have encountered before. These include drag and drop digits and sentence auto-completes.
The assessment will be divided into a series of highly time-pressured sections. Your child doesn’t necessarily need to complete all the questions in each section to do well.
11 Plus (11+) Exam Format for Cheadle Hulme School
The CEM Select assessment will cover the following areas:
- Verbal Reasoning
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
- Numerical Reasoning
The Verbal Reasoning section of the test assesses your child’s ability to solve problems using words, with a special focus on depth and breadth of vocabulary.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning section requires your child to solve problems using shapes and patterns with a main focus on one specific question type.
The Numerical Reasoning section assesses your child’s ability to solve problems using numbers and arithmetic.
