Introduction:
The Doha British School (DBS) in Ain Khaled opened in 1997. It is co-educational and comprises a Pre-School, Primary School, Secondary School and Sixth Form. DBS enjoys a fantastic reputation, as do the other DBS Schools in Al Wakra and Rawdat Al Hamama.
DBS Ain Khaled sets high standards for all its pupils, providing a positive learning environment where students are stretched. In KS3, students study a range of subjects, including English, maths, science, Qatar history and design technology. In Year 9, students make decisions regarding IGCSE subjects.
The extra-curricular programme is impressive. Pupils have a wide range of activities to choose from, such as choir, chess, cross stitch and netball. Getting involved enables pupils to step out of their comfort zones to try new things and enhance their skills while forging new friendships and having fun.
Wellbeing is a priority at DBS Ain Khaled. School-based counselling provides support and guidance to pupils experiencing personal challenges, helping them improve their resilience and boost their confidence and equipping them with coping strategies.

The Online CAT4 for Admission to Years 7-12 at Doha British School Ain Khaled
DBS uses the online CAT4 for candidates seeking entry to Years 7-12. The CAT4 assesses skills across four areas, using multiple-choice questions:
- The verbal reasoning questions will assess how well your child can solve problems that rely on interpreting written language.
- The non-verbal reasoning questions will evaluate your child’s ability to solve problems by analysing visual information.
- The quantitative reasoning questions will assess your child’s mathematical problem-solving skills.
- The spatial reasoning questions will require your child to solve problems by mentally moving shapes around.
The CAT4 has different levels for different year groups. Typically, schools use the following levels:
Level C for candidates in Year 6
Level D for candidates in Year 7
Level E for candidates in Year 8
Level F for candidates in Year 9 or 10
Level G for candidates in Year 11 or 12
You can confirm with the admissions team which level your child will take.
Preparation Tips for Doha British School’s Online CAT4 for Admission to Years 7-12
There is a high demand for places at DBS, meaning your child will need to perform well in the CAT4 to be in with a chance of securing a place. It can be challenging to know how to prepare for a competitive entrance exam, which is why we have compiled the following tips:
- Prioritise their wellbeing. If your child is getting enough sleep, getting the nutrients they need and exercising regularly, they will find it easier to manage the exam preparation period.
- Maintain a balanced lifestyle. Continuing with the activities they enjoy and having plenty of breaks from studying will ensure your child does not feel overwhelmed. While you want them to take the entrance exam seriously, you don’t want them to feel that nothing else matters.
- Promote a growth mindset. Teach your child that their abilities are not set in stone but can be enhanced with time and effort. Help them learn from any mistakes they make so they realise that errors can be embraced as learning opportunities.
- Encourage your child to read various texts. Reading a range of books will widen your child’s vocabulary and improve their reading comprehension, which will help with the verbal reasoning questions. Also, reading is a great way to unwind after studying.
- Test their mental arithmetic skills. Give your child mental arithmetic questions when you are on car journeys or walking somewhere together. Becoming more adept at answering these questions will help with the quantitative reasoning part of the CAT4.
- Use practice tests. Use our CAT4 practice tests so your child knows precisely what to expect in the CAT4. Familiarity with the question types, format and timings will boost their confidence and reduce their nerves. As they work through the tests, they will get better at answering questions quickly and correctly, putting them in a strong position to excel on their assessment day.
