Introduction:

The Doha British School (DBS) Ain Khaled is an international school in Qatar for boys and girls aged 3-18. It has impressive facilities, including a swimming pool, an adventure playground, two libraries and music rooms, ensuring pupils can develop personally and academically.

Small class sizes, committed teachers and excellent resources mean pupils progress well. Key Stage Two’s curriculum encompasses maths, English, science, history, geography, art & design, design technology, computing, PSHE, Arabic, Islamic studies and Qatar history, offering pupils a broad and balanced curriculum.

A range of extra-curricular activities enables pupils to pursue their interests and grow into accomplished young adults. Sport is an integral part of the extra-curricular programme, with students able to participate in both competitive and non-competitive games, benefitting their physical health and teamwork skills.

DBS provides pupils with a safe and secure environment in which they can thrive. However, children inevitably face challenges growing up in an increasingly complex world. For this reason, DBS provides counselling to support those experiencing difficulties, working closely with parents to find solutions.

Please read on if you are interested in your child joining DBS Ain Khaled in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6.

Preparation Tips for Doha British School’s Progress Tests for Admission to Years 3-6

DBS Ain Khaled is a popular school, so demand for places is high. For this reason, your child will need to excel in the Progress Tests to be offered a place. There is plenty you can do to ensure they are prepared for the tests and able to perform to the best of their ability. We have the following tips for you:

  • Start revision early because last-minute cramming is stressful.
  • Make a revision plan so you know your child will cover everything they need to learn in time for the entrance exam.
  • Keep study sessions short because most young children focus effectively for around 20-30 minutes at a time.
  • Encourage your child to exercise regularly because exercise is excellent for emotional and physical wellbeing.
  • Provide your child with a quiet space to study so they can take in what they are learning and concentrate on topics they find challenging.
  • Schedule plenty of breaks and fun activities so your child does not feel overwhelmed by the preparation process and can keep their stress levels low.
  • Promote a growth mindset so your child knows their skills will improve with time and effort, which will keep them motivated.

We also recommend the use of practice tests. We have produced Progress Test practice tests that are highly beneficial to work through for many reasons:

  • Familiarity with the types of questions that will come up will remove fear of the unknown.
  • Your child can get used to answering questions efficiently while under time pressure.
  • The answers and explanations can help your child learn from their mistakes, leading to a polished performance on the day.
  • You can identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses and allocate more time to the challenging areas.
