Downe House School is an independent school for girls in Cold Ash, Berkshire. Established in 1907, it predominantly caters for boarding pupils, thus it boasts a well-integrated house system.
A stimulating curriculum enables pupils to fully grasp the gravity of the Lower School’s offering, aimed at broadening academic and non-academic horizons for the benefit of a rounded development. Ranging from science, ICT and PSHE to French, Latin and mathematics, the syllabus encourages collaborative effort while at the same time praising individual successes.
A plethora of sporting, music and creative arts opportunities, as well as clubs and societies, complement a thriving co-curricular programme, which comprehensively invests in ensuring that learning is as fun as it is valuable. To maximise the Downe House experience, the activities on offer include everything from engineering and knitting to Book Club and Model United Nations.
Occupying a 110-acre site, the school educates with attention to detail, combining tradition with a forward-looking ethos to engender a sense of community and a commitment to hard work. Consequently, girls develop into independent and inquisitive thinkers, approaching adulthood with the incentive to play an active role in society’s processes.
