Introduction
Ewell Castle School is an independent school that educates boys and girls from Reception to Sixth Form. With a student population of around 650, Ewell Castle is small enough to have a friendly family atmosphere while being large enough to offer a diverse, stimulating and enriching school experience.
Results in public examinations at Ewell Castle School are commendable. In 2025, 47% of GCSE grades were in the 9-7 range, and 55% of A-Level grades were in the A*-B range. These results are down to the resilience and growth mindsets of the pupils, as well as the commitment of the staff to stretch and support them.
Life outside of the classroom is vibrant, with many opportunities in a variety of areas. For example, the school has a Cricket Academy for pupils who are playing at county level or above, enabling them to combine their academic learning with intensive cricket training. There is also a Golf Programme for aspiring professional golfers and a Tennis Academy.
Pupil wellbeing is important at Ewell Castle School. Not only does the school have a counsellor, but it also has a full-time ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) in the Senior School who helps pupils learn strategies to cope with their emotions.

Ewell Castle School: Scholarships and Bursaries for Year 7 Entry
Scholarships
Academic scholarships are available for Year 7 entry. All candidates for Year 7 entry will be considered for an academic scholarship based on performance in the entrance exam.
All the other scholarships (art, dance, DT, drama, music and sport) must be applied for by the October half-term of Year 6. Assessments for these scholarships will take place in November. To look at the criteria for the different scholarships, please click here.
Candidates who do not reach the necessary standard for a scholarship in their chosen area but show great potential may be offered an exhibition.
Scholarships offer a 15-25% fee reduction, whereas exhibitions offer a 5-10% fee reduction.
Bursaries
Bursaries are available for Year 7 entry. They are means-tested awards that help families who can’t afford the full fees. If a candidate does well in the entrance exam, a bursary can make it possible for them to attend the school, but only a limited number are available. Typically, eligible candidates will only be offered fee remission below 50%, whether that is a bursary on its own or a bursary coupled with a scholarship.
You must apply for a bursary at least a week before the October half-term of Year 6. Applying will involve completing forms about your financial circumstances, providing evidence and being interviewed.
If you have any questions about Ewell Castle School’s bursaries, you can contact the bursar ([email protected]).
Ewell Castle School: Online Quest Assessment for Year 7 Entry
The main part of Ewell Castle School’s 11+ entrance exam will be an online assessment produced by Quest. It will comprise four sections:
- English: The English section will be a reading comprehension. It could be fiction or non-fiction. The questions will evaluate your child’s ability to understand the given passage. They will need to show a range of skills, including making inferences, working out word meanings from their context and recognising the effect the author is trying to create through their choice of language.
- Maths: The questions in this section will cover what your child has learnt in their maths lessons at school but won’t go beyond Year 5 work. Topics may include number and place value, fractions, decimals, percentages, measurement, geometry, graphs and charts. If your child can apply their knowledge and has good mathematical reasoning skills, they should do well in this section.
- Verbal Reasoning: The verbal reasoning section will look at your child’s ability to solve problems that use written information. For example, they may be asked to choose the statement that must be true from five options, using the facts they’ve been given.
- Puzzles and Problem-Solving: The puzzles and problem-solving section uses interactive puzzles to test your child’s maths and logical reasoning. The questions will require your child to be flexible with their thinking and stay on task when the answer isn’t immediately clear.
We understand that you will want your child to feel fully prepared and confident about Ewell Castle School’s online Quest assessment, as this will help them perform to the best of their ability. For this reason, we have compiled some preparation tips for you in the section below.
Tips to Help Your Child Prepare for the Ewell Castle School Year 7 Online Quest Assessment
We hope the following tips prove useful, allowing your child to have a productive and positive preparation period:
- Keep study sessions short, as children can typically focus effectively for 2-3 minutes per year of their age. If you start sessions well in advance of the online assessment, there will be no need for lengthy cramming sessions.
- Revise maths and English school work so that your child has all the required factual knowledge for the online exam, remembering that questions will not go beyond Year 5 work. Writing out key facts on flashcards and using them as a revision tool will make it feel manageable.
- Promote a growth mindset, which is the belief that our intelligence and skills are not set in stone but can be developed through determination and hard work. Setbacks and mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow, and every achievement should be celebrated, no matter how small.
- Provide your child with plenty of interesting books because there is nothing better than reading to enhance their reading comprehension and broaden their vocabulary, particularly key for the English and verbal reasoning sections of the online assessment. Additionally, reading is a great way to relax.
- Play games and puzzles together, as this is a great way for your child to have fun while learning. You could, for example, play Scrabble and Boggle. These activities will help strengthen problem-solving, reasoning and language skills.
- Use practice tests so that your child knows what to expect in the online Quest assessment. Familiarity with the question types, format and timings of the assessment will remove any fear of the unknown. They can use our highly accurate online Quest practice tests to boost their confidence as they work through them, learning from their mistakes and improving their ability to work quickly and accurately.
