Introduction
Felsted School is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 4-18. It was founded in 1564 and in 1970 started its journey to become fully co-educational. Superb facilities, such as 25 tennis courts, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a gym and two sports halls, help to make Felsted an incredible school.
Academically, pupils are challenged at Felsted School to ensure they reach their full potential. Pupils study up to 18 subjects in Year 9 so that they have a broad curriculum, enabling them to find out where their strengths and interests lie before picking their GCSE subjects.
The co-curricular programme is an important part of school life at Felsted. There are over 50 activities for pupils to choose from, including yoga, cartooning and debating. Students can also join the CCF, which is an excellent way to learn how to work as part of a team and to develop leadership skills. In addition to this, many Felsted students get involved with volunteering and complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award schemes.
Pupil wellbeing is of extreme importance to Felsted School. All pupils are taught how to take care of their mental health, and staff work hard to arm pupils with strategies that will help them negotiate the complexities of growing up in the modern world. The school’s Wellbeing Centre is a safe and calm place for students to go when they need some respite.
Felsted School: Admissions Process for 13 Plus (13+)/Year 9 Deferred Entry
Choosing the right school for your child is a big decision. As such, Felsted School strongly recommends that you attend an Open Morning or arrange an individual visit before completing their registration form. An Open Morning for entry to Year 9 is held in both June and October.
If you decide the school is a good fit for your child, you should then complete the registration form and pay the £125 registration fee.
A report and reference from your child’s current school will be reviewed as part of the admissions process. In addition to this, your child will sit a bespoke online test and be interviewed by a member of Felsted’s Senior Leadership Team. The aim is to make sure that places are offered to candidates who would thrive at Felsted.
Please be aware that Felsted School encourages you to apply early so your child can sit the online test in the spring term, usually in February, of Year 6 or 7. (Your child can sit the test in October of Year 8 but there might not be many places available by then.)
To accept an offer of a place, you need to complete the necessary paperwork and pay the acceptance fee.

Preparing for the Felsted School 13 Plus (13+)/Year 9 Bespoke Online Test
Preparing for Felsted School’s online entrance test will help your child perform well on the day. Our online Practice Tests are a fantastic resource to use for a number of reasons:
- They closely resemble the actual test, so if your child works their way through our Practice Tests, they will be familiar with the format of the online entrance exam and the types of questions that will be asked. This will help to reduce anxiety in the build-up to the test.
- Questions are marked automatically in the Practice Tests and explanations are given, meaning your child can look at their incorrect answers and work out where they went wrong. This analysis of errors will lead to fewer mistakes being made in the actual exam.
- Scores and feedback are given for each module. They will enable your child to identify their strengths and weaknesses, meaning study time can then be used wisely by targeting their weaker areas.
