Introduction

Headington School is an independent day and boarding girls’ school in Headington, Oxford. In line with high standards and the motto Fight the good fight of faith, the school equips pupils for life and has produced a vast number of notable alumni. Its 23-acre campus features a swimming pool, equestrian facilities and tennis courts, enriching the overall educational experiences. [1]

Headington’s curriculum caters for varied abilities, boosting pupils’ competencies in areas such as computing, natural sciences, languages and design. The school provides an array of opportunities for girls to shape their futures through meticulous learning and active participation in in-class activities, expanding their subject knowledge alongside their understanding of the world.

The proximity to Oxford allows girls to attend lectures and workshops and go on field trips, enhancing their competencies beyond the robust curriculum. Additionally, the broad enrichment programme ensures that students expand their skill sets by engaging in activities such as photography, filmmaking, fashion design, drama, dance, fencing and rowing. [2]

Pastorally, Headington employs an individualised approach to supporting and valuing its students. Maintaining firm partnerships with parents, the school extends personalised care, maximising the many benefits of quality independent education.

Recently, an impressive 75% of GCSE grades earned were at grade 7 or higher. Testifying to the superior quality of Headington’s academic and non-academic programmes, these stellar results ensure that many leavers access higher education at esteemed Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge.

Headington School 13 Plus (13+) Deferred Entry Admissions Process

Headington’s open events provide a fantastic opportunity for prospective families to explore the school’s offerings. There are Open Mornings and Meet the Headmistress events, which are held throughout the year. Including guided tours of the facilities and meetings with the Head, they can be booked through this page. Individual visits can also be arranged.

Around 40 girls join the school at the 13+ entry point every year. In the initial stages of the deferred admissions process, you should register your daughter with the school and pay the £125 non-refundable fee (£250 for overseas applicants). If she currently attends a Prep School, she will be asked to sit an online pre-test while she’s in Year 6 or Year 7. Here are the steps in the 13+ admissions process:

Girls currently at a Prep School:

⦿ Take the ISEB Common Pre-test in the Spring Term of Year 6 or 7

⦿ Attend an interview (during Taster Day) later in the same term

Other girls:

⦿ Take English and Maths entrance exams while in Year 8

⦿ Attend an interview

Offers are made based on strong results in the ISEB Pre-test and a successful interview, as well as a positive report from your child’s current school. For pupils from state schools or those who missed the pre-test window, places are offered based on the outcomes of Year 8 entrance exams and an interview.

To talented 13+ applicants, Headington offers scholarships in the following areas:

– Academic ability

– Art

– Dance

– Drama

– Music

– Sports

These are valid till the end of your daughter’s career at the school, subject to continuous progress and commitment to the relevant field.

Generally, scholarships hold no monetary value, with the exception of specific academic scholarships. Moller Academic Scholarships, which are exclusively awarded to the highest-achieving candidates at 13+ level, are valued at £600 per annum. Additionally, music scholarships include free tuition for a musical instrument of choice.

A limited number of means-tested financial awards, which can cover up to 50% of day fees, are offered through the Headington Access Programme (HAP). Please note that financial support for boarding fees is not available. The means-testing procedure will be conducted by an independent company called Bursary Administration Ltd.
