Introduction

Hurstpierpoint College, also known as Hurst, was founded in 1849. A successful independent establishment with an impressive alumni list, it educates a mixed cohort of over 1320 pupils in line with the motto Blessed are the pure in heart. [1]

Boasting the oldest school Shakespeare Society in the country, Hurst places great emphasis on drama. Additionally, it extends excellent academic provision, comprehensively catering for the cohort’s intellectual needs by enhancing, for example, their linguistic, technological, numerical and scientific capabilities.

Ensuring a well-rounded educational experience, Hurst is also invested in providing a thriving co-curricular programme. Ninjutsu, ballet, kayaking, sailing, climbing, water polo and many other activities ensure that both boys and girls focus their efforts on self-improvement and self-discovery in line with the school’s culture of achievement. [2]

Successfully meeting all the national standards for quality education, Hurst boasts admirable ISI reports. According to these reports, staff effectively establish suitable channels for pupils to discuss any anxieties or issues they have, and students confirm that they always have a school contact to confide in.

Hurst is also noted for having an effective Sustainability strategy, aiming to educate its learning community about environmental practices and global impact. Students actively participate in and promote this agenda and are broadly involved in all related issues, endeavouring to reinforce inclusion and diversity principles in parallel with promoting sustainable development. [3]
