Introduction

Ibstock Place School is an independent co-educational day school in Roehampton, South West London. Founded in 1894, it provides a child-centred education that adheres to Froebelian pedagogy, endorsing exploring, active learning and thinking critically and creatively as part of the educational experience. [1]

Committed to providing outstanding teaching, Ibstock Place shapes pupils into independent learners who make the most of the rigorous academic life. The curriculum includes expressive arts, technology, humanities, languages and the Foundations (PSHE) programme, which provides children with valuable insights into the wider world’s social and developmental processes.

Over 100 co-curricular clubs are available, ranging from coding and photography to fencing and water polo. As part of the breadth of out-of-class activities, pupils engage in producing the popular student magazine, ‘The Wall’, and recording and editing ‘The Slightly Scientific Podcast’  in Ibstock Place’s modern and spacious Innovation Centre.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award programme allows students to cultivate social skills through volunteering opportunities and to engage in enriching experiences, such as camping beneath glaciers to boost their resilience and problem-solving skills. The initiative focuses less on competition and more on individual growth, encouraging participants to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve challenging objectives. [2]

Ibstock Place’s outstanding educational methodology was confirmed by its recent academic achievements, with 75% of grades falling within the 9-7 range. This significant attainment not only underscores the effectiveness of the school’s teaching philosophy but also positions leavers for entry into esteemed higher education institutions, both nationally and globally.
