Introduction
Kensington Park School (KPS) is an independent school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18, with boarding available from Year 9. It is a relatively new school, having been formed in 2018 from the merger of Duff Miller College and Lansdowne College, but it is quickly gaining an enviable reputation. In 2025, it received favourable reviews in The Good Schools Guide and Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Guide.
Academic results at KPS are impressive. 60% of A-Level grades were in the A*-B range in 2025, and 49% of GCSE grades were in the 9-7 range. Undoubtedly, small class sizes, committed teachers and hard-working students all play their part.
Thanks to an extensive co-curricular programme, students receive a holistic education, leaving KPS as well-rounded, accomplished young adults. Clubs and societies are held every lunchtime and three times a week after school. Some are student-led, allowing students to develop their leadership and organisational skills.
Pastoral care is a priority at KPS. The inclusive, friendly environment ensures that students feel safe and secure, and a range of staff give students individual support. Additionally, PSHE lessons cover health and well-being, equipping students with strategies to thrive in the 21st century.

Admissions Process for 11 Plus Entry to Kensington Park School
The best way to start the admissions process is to visit KPS and see if it feels like a good fit for your family. You will be able to view the facilities, meet staff and current pupils, and ask any questions you have. You can attend an open event or arrange a personal visit. The best time to visit is when your child is in Year 5 or the start of Year 6.
The next step is to let the admissions team know if you want to register your child for a place. Registering will include completing the registration form and paying the non-refundable £300 registration fee by the November deadline in Year 6. You must also provide a copy of your child’s passport and their latest school report, as well as any other relevant information.
A reference from your child’s current school will then be requested, and, on a later date in November, your child will take an online Quest assessment at KPS and be interviewed by the Head of KPS or the Head of the Senior School.
Offers will be made in December of Year 6. To be considered for a place, your child will need to perform well in the online assessment and interview. They will also need a satisfactory school report and reference.
The deadline to accept an offer is in early March of Year 6. An acceptance deposit of a term’s tuition fees will be required, but it will be refunded when your child leaves KPS, minus any money owed.
Kensington Park School: Scholarships for Year 7 Entry
Academic, music, sport, art & design and drama scholarships are available for Year 7 entry, but no bursaries are currently available at KPS.
If you want your child to be considered for a scholarship, you should indicate this on your registration form. The academic scholarships are awarded based on performance in the online entrance exam. For the other scholarships, you will need to check that your child meets the criteria and submit the required information, which you can view here. Shortlisted candidates will then be assessed.
If your child is awarded a scholarship, it will be reviewed every year, and there will be a small reduction in the school fees.
Kensington Park School: Online Quest Assessment for Year 7 Entry
On your child’s assessment day, they will sit an online Quest assessment and be interviewed.
The Kensington Park School 11+ online Quest assessment consists of three modules:
- English
The English module will include a reading comprehension task using a passage specifically written for the assessment. The passage could be fiction or non-fiction. Your child will read the passage, then answer questions to evaluate their understanding. They will be expected to be able to extract information from the passage, make inferences, deduce word meaning from the context, identify language techniques and understand the reasons for the author’s choice of vocabulary.
There may also be questions testing the standard of your child’s spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Maths
The maths module will cover topics your child has been taught at school, not going beyond the Year 5 maths national curriculum. The topics are arithmetic, number, measurement, geometry and statistics.
Your child will need to use their mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills for some questions, including those that require multiple steps. They can use a pencil and paper to help them.
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The non-verbal reasoning module utilises visual information (e.g. diagrams and shapes) to evaluate your child’s spatial awareness, pattern recognition, logical deduction and problem-solving skills. For example, they may have to identify which set of blocks can be used to build a given shape.
Effective preparation is key to performing well in a competitive entrance exam, which is why we have compiled some tips for you in the section below.
Tips to Help Your Child Prepare for the Kensington Park School Online Quest Assessment
The following tips will help your child have a successful preparation period, enabling them to feel fully prepared for the KPS online Quest assessment for entry to Year 7 and helping to build their confidence while reducing their nerves.
- Revise schoolwork up to the end of Year 5 to ensure that your child has a strong knowledge base to answer the questions in the maths and English modules. Key facts can be written on flashcards, which are easy to review and help prevent revision from feeling overwhelming.
- Keep revision sessions to no longer than 30 minutes at a time, as your child is unlikely to be able to focus effectively for any longer.
- Provide your child with a wide variety of reading material because reading is the best way to improve their reading comprehension and will lead to a more mature vocabulary.
- Test their mental arithmetic and times tables when you are on car journeys or walks together. Make it fun by seeing how many questions they can answer correctly in a minute, and then see if they can beat their record.
-
- Stay positive and embrace a growth mindset, celebrating your child’s progress and seeing mistakes and setbacks as part of the learning process.
- Play games and puzzles to improve your child’s spatial awareness. Jigsaw puzzles and tangrams are great for this and are a fun way to improve skills.
- Use practice tests so that your child is familiar with the question types and format of the KPS online Quest assessment. Additionally, your child will get used to working accurately under time pressure and can learn from any mistakes they make. Our online Quest practice tests are ideal because they have been carefully researched so that they mirror the actual Quest online assessment.
