Introduction

Situated in the South Downs countryside of West Sussex, Lancing College is an independent boarding and day school for students aged 13 to 18. The school educates approximately 550 pupils and has been co-educational since 1970. Lancing College has a strong academic reputation, with an emphasis on providing an all-round education.

Founded in 1848, the school is noted for its large, Gothic revival chapel where worship is conducted in a high church in the Anglican tradition.

How to Apply for 13 Plus Entry to Lancing College

Before applying for a Year 9 place at Lancing College, parents and prospective students are encouraged to attend the school’s Open Morning, which normally takes place in May. The Morning consists of a tour of the school, led by a Housemaster or Housemistress, and the opportunity to meet the school Headmaster.

Private appointments can be arranged by contacting the admissions department on 01273 465805, or by email on [email protected]. Visits can be arranged from Tuesday to Friday, between 9am and 2pm and on Saturday mornings during term time.

In order to register for 13 Plus entry to Lancing College, parents need to complete the school’s registration form, which can be downloaded from the school website, here.

The Lancing College 13 Plus Pretest Assessment

Students have the opportunity to gain early entry to Lancing College through the Advance Programme (from 2021 entry onwards), which aims to identify candidates with the highest potential to excel at the school. The programme will be open for applications in the Advent Term of Year 6, and is designed to gauge pupils’ strengths in academic, sporting and other areas.

Once registered for 13 Plus entry, students applying via the Lancing Advance Programme entry point are required to take the ISEB Common Pretest in Year 6 at their current school.

The ISEB Common Pretest is designed to provide schools with an overview of a student’s academic potential over several core subjects: English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

The test, which cannot be repeated, is age-standardised to ensure that no student taking part has an unfair advantage. For more information on the pretest, read our post The ISEB Common Pretest: What You Need to Know.

How to Prepare for the Lancing College Pretest

The sooner students start preparing for the pretest, the more time they’ll have to improve any weak areas. At Pretest Plus, we believe one of the most effective ways to prepare for the pretest is to use our online pretest practice tests and courses, which are specifically designed to help your child perform to the best of their ability on test day.

Students’ exam technique can be improved through practice. Our practice tests help familiarise students with the layout and style of the exam. They can also help identify any weak areas , which can then be worked upon and improved through focused study. Taking the practice tests will also help students get accustomed to answering questions under time pressure.

Our online tests and courses cover Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Once students have completed the tests, they are able to look over their answers and receive prompt feedback about each question in the form of detailed written explanations. Ranking statistics also provided to give an indication of your child’s relative performance.
