Newstead Wood School is a grammar school for girls in Orpington, south-east London. Specialising in engineering and psychology, it was founded in 1957 and has recently been rated as ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED. [1]

Newstead Wood offers a varied curriculum, aimed at building pupils’ skills and character while they engage in academic and non-academic endeavours. Lessons are delivered for art, mathematics, computing, science, Japanese and PSHE, among others, encouraging informed curiosity as one of the many benefits of the learning experience.

After classes, girls enthusiastically partake in a wealth of enrichment activities, featuring everything from trampolining, orchestra and Feminist Soc to coding, rock band and chess. Through the balanced enrichment programme, the school helps boost pupils’ social skills and practical knowledge, ensuring the quality of their attainment and welfare at the same time. [2]

Newstead Wood operates in line with the motto Fortitudine Crescamus (May we grow in strength) and tailors its provision to facilitate pupils’ betterment, both academically and personally. The community is inclusive and respectful of differences, proudly producing articulate and confident leavers who frequently join Russell Group Universities.

Newstead Wood School In-Year Entry (12 Plus & 13 Plus) Admissions Information

The Newstead Wood School standard entry point is 11 Plus. However, the school also accepts applications from pupils interested in In-Year (Late) Entry. To assess pupils for late transfer, Newstead Wood administers the CAT4 online test.

In-Year applications should be made to the London Borough of Bromley. Your child will then be placed on a waiting list and, if a place becomes available, she will be asked to sit the CAT4 entrance test.

If there are two or more applicants who have achieved the same score, the school may additionally assess them through a Non-Verbal Reasoning assessment.
