Introduction

Seaford College is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 5-18, comprising a Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form. The facilities at Seaford College are impressive and include the following: a Music department that has a recital room and a recording studio; a nine-hole golf course and a driving range; a covered swimming pool; and a performing arts centre, which is large enough for more than 700 students.

Academically, the College aims to ensure that all pupils reach their full potential. Committed teachers deliver engaging lessons, which motivates pupils to work hard. The curriculum is broad and balanced, allowing students to discover where their talents and interests lie. If a pupil finds themselves struggling in any subject, they can seek support from the Academic Access and Achievement Centre.

The co-curricular programme at Seaford College is extensive. Participation is strongly encouraged so that pupils can develop into well-rounded, confident young people. Warhammer, chess, creative writing, drama and singing are just a few of the available activities.

Pastoral care is excellent at Seaford College. Every pupil is valued and respected and will receive plenty of support if they experience any difficulties. No.46 is a safe place on campus for pupils to go to if they need to talk something over with a member of staff or ask for advice. In addition to No.46, the school has a Chaplain and a Peer Mentoring Team to help facilitate the wellbeing of pupils.

Seaford College: Admissions Process for 11 Plus (11+)/Year 7 Entry

Seaford College recommends that you visit the school if you are thinking of applying for a place for your child. Open Mornings are held throughout the year, and you can also arrange a personal visit

After visiting, if you decide Seaford College is the right place for your child, you should fill out the registration form and pay the £100 registration fee. The school recommends that you do this at least 18 months before your child is due to start Year 7.

Your child will then be invited to attend one of two Experience Days held at Seaford College for entry to Year 7. This day will involve spending time in the classroom and taking part in a games session and a team-building session.

In addition to this, your child will be invited to the Testing Day to sit the CAT4 in late November of Year 6. The results of the CAT4 will enable Seaford College to determine which candidates will be able to access the school’s curriculum.

A reference and report from your child’s current school will also be reviewed as part of the admissions process. The aim is to make sure that any child who is offered a place will thrive at the school.

If more pupils meet the admissions criteria for entry to Year 7 than there are places available, preference may be given to:

  • A child with a sibling at the school
  • A child who has a parent who went to Seaford College
  • A child who has a parent who is a current member of staff at Seaford College
  • A child with a specific talent
  • A child who would benefit from a boarding place

Offers are made in January of Year 6. Should your child be offered a place and you decide to accept it, you will need to pay a £2,000 deposit if you are a UK resident and one term’s fees if you are not.

Seaford College: CAT4 Format

The CAT4 consists of multiple-choice questions that cover Verbal reasoning, Non-Verbal reasoning, Quantitative reasoning and Spatial reasoning.

  • The Verbal reasoning questions assess your child’s ability to solve problems using words.
  • The Non-Verbal reasoning questions assess your child’s ability to solve problems by analysing visual information.
  • The Quantitative reasoning questions assess your child’s ability to solve problems using numbers.
  • The Spatial reasoning questions assess your child’s ability to understand how objects can move in a three-dimensional world.

Preparing for Seaford College’s CAT4

At Pretest Plus, we believe that putting time aside to prepare for the CAT4 will help your child perform well on Testing Day. We have produced highly accurate CAT4 Practice Tests that are an ideal resource to use when applying for a school that uses the CAT4 as part of its admissions process. Working their way through our Practice Tests will help your child in the following ways:

  • They will get plenty of practice answering the types of questions that will come up in the CAT4. This means they should be able to answer the questions in the real CAT4 confidently and efficiently.
  • They will become familiar with the format of the CAT4 and should therefore feel relaxed about Testing Day, as there will be no fear of the unknown.
  • The Practice Tests come with answers and explanations so your child can learn from any mistakes they make. Learning from errors made before the actual CAT4 should lead to fewer errors being made on the day.
  • They can use the Practice Tests to identify any weak areas and allocate study time to improve in those areas.
