Due to Covid, St. Benedict’s School have changed their admissions process for Year 7 Entry. Written papers will be replaced by an online test called the ISEB Common Pretest.
This is to be taken by applicants at their current school during December or January. Pupils who cannot take the test at their current school will be tested at St. Benedict’s on January 4th or 5th.
The school will also take into consideration the quality of current-school reports and the candidate’s performance during an interview.
St. Benedict’s School » The 11+ Assessment: ISEB Common Pre-test
To join in Year 7, your child will be asked to complete an online assessment called the ISEB Common Pretest, which assesses skills in Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Here’s a brief introduction to the subjects covered in this online exam:
English
The English part of the ISEB Pretest assesses comprehension, sentence completion, spelling and punctuation.
Mathematics
The maths part of the ISEB Pretest assesses mathematical ability across the curriculum, including arithmetic and problem solving.
Verbal Reasoning
The Verbal Reasoning part of the ISEB Pretest assesses thinking and problem solving with words.
Non-Verbal Reasoning
The Non-Verbal Reasoning part assesses thinking with shapes, space, diagrams and pictures.
The exam lasts approximately 2.5 hours. The timings for each section are listed below:
– English – 25 minutes
– Maths – 50 minutes
– Verbal reasoning – 36 minutes
– Non-Verbal reasoning – 32 minutes
