Introduction
St George’s Ascot is an independent school for girls aged 11-18 that offers day, boarding and flexible boarding places. Founded in 1877 as a school for boys, it transitioned into a finishing school for girls in 1904. Today, St George’s Ascot prides itself on helping girls develop into confident, resilient and compassionate young women.
Specialised teachers deliver engaging lessons and support pupils at every step of their educational journey. In 2023, an impressive 61% of GCSE grades were in the 9-7 range. Many pupils achieved grades higher than their baseline predictions, demonstrating that academic progress at St George’s is excellent.
The co-curricular programme at the school is extensive, offering activities to suit all tastes. All girls are encouraged to sign up for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which involves trying new activities, volunteering and participating in an assessed expedition. Taking part enhances many skills, including the ability to use initiative and work as part of a team.
Every pupil at St George’s Ascot is known as an individual and taken care of. The friendly family environment ensures that girls feel safe and secure, allowing them to thrive. All girls have someone to turn to if they experience any emotional difficulties, whether it be one of the school counsellors, a trusted teacher, the chaplain or a trained volunteer Sixth Form counsellor.
St George’s School, Ascot: Admissions Process for Deferred 13 Plus (13+)/Year 9 Entry
Choosing a school for your daughter can be a daunting task. However, visiting St George’s Ascot will mean you can view the facilities, meet current pupils, meet staff members and learn more about the school’s ethos. This will help you decide if it is the right place for your daughter.
If you decide to register your daughter for deferred Year 9 entry, you should do so by the end of October of Year 6. You will be required to fill out the registration form and pay the £200 non-refundable registration fee.
Your daughter will then sit the 11+ assessments at the end of November of Year 6. This will involve the following:
- A one-hour combined maths and English paper
- A one-hour online CEM test
- An interview
St George’s Ascot will also request a reference from your daughter’s current school. This will be looked at as part of the admissions process.
Offers for deferred Year 9 entry will be made in December of Year 6 and must be accepted by the beginning of March.
If your daughter is offered a place and you accept it, she will be invited to a Keeping in Touch Day and other significant events at the school, helping her to become part of the school community before she officially joins in Year 9.
Please note that deferred Year 9 entry is only available to girls who attend a 13+ Prep School, i.e. a Prep School that educates pupils until the end of Year 8.
St George’s School, Ascot: Scholarships and Bursaries
A number of scholarships are available for 13+ entry: academic, art, drama, music, sport, swimming, performing arts and all-rounder. Assessments will determine which applicants have reached the necessary standard to be offered an award.
Girls who are awarded a scholarship are expected to be excellent role models and to contribute significantly to school life in their chosen area.
Bursaries are means-tested awards. They are awarded to girls who would flourish at St George’s Ascot but whose parents cannot afford the fees. Only a limited number of bursaries are available, meaning not everyone who applies for one will be successful. If you are interested in applying, you should speak to the school’s bursar (contact details are below).

- The Verbal reasoning questions test your child’s vocabulary, including their ability to make sense of what they are reading and make inferences.
- The Non-Verbal reasoning questions test your child’s ability to recognise shapes and match patterns. Spatial awareness is important in these questions.
- The Numerical reasoning questions will test your child’s knowledge of mathematical concepts, their ability to manipulate numbers and their problem-solving skills.
The CEM Select online assessment has the following methods to answer questions, which your daughter may not have come across before:
