St Swithun’s School 11 Plus (11+) Entry Admissions Process
Open Days are held throughout the year. These include a presentation from the Head and a self-guided tour of the facilities, as well as the opportunity to get involved in subject activities and meet current pupils. All 11+ applicants should be registered with the school by the summer of Year 5. This includes a payment of a £250 non-refundable fee. As part of the admissions process, your child will be asked to sit an online test (known as the ISEB Pre-test) in the Autumn Term of the year preceding entry. There will also be a written exams, taken on a separate occasion in the same term. To complete the admissions process, the school will look into the quality of references obtained from your daughter’s current Head.
St Swithun’s offers places in March, to be accepted with a payment of a £1000 deposit. Half of the deposit will be deducted from the first term’s fees, while the remaining £500 will be refunded at the end of your daughter’s career at the school.
At 11+ entry, scholarships are awarded for exceptional talent in the following areas:
– Academia
– Music
Academic scholarships are offered on the basis of performance in the pre-test and written papers and the quality of the current school’s references. The strongest candidates will be interviewed by a relevant staff member in January. These scholarships carry a fee deduction of up to 20%.
Music scholarships carry a fee deduction of 5-10% and cover the cost of music tuition on two instruments.
Means-tested awards of up to 100% of tuition fees are available to girls from low-income families who meet the senior school’s entrance criteria. Applicants seeking an assisted place undergo the same entrance procedure as all other candidates. However, they should be registered with the school as soon as possible.
