Introduction
Wycombe Abbey is a highly successful boarding and day school for girls aged 11-19. (It is worth noting though that day places are limited and only available to girls living within a 15-mile radius of the school.) The aims of the school today are the same as they have been since its foundation in 1896: academic excellence, the holistic development of pupils and a caring school community that has faith in God.
The school is dedicated to ensuring all its pupils become successful learners, not only so they excel at Wycombe Abbey but also so they thrive at university and in their careers. To this end, the following attributes are at the heart of school life: risk taking, resourcefulness, determination, reflection and continuous development.
There are plenty of activities for girls to participate in outside of the classroom. Students who enjoy playing a musical instrument, for example, can play in a small group, join an orchestra, enter competitions and perform in concerts. Excellent sports facilities enable girls to pursue any passion they have for sport, with some girls reaching elite levels.
Pastoral care is of an extremely high standard at Wycombe Abbey. Pupils joining in Year 7 (UIII) will be placed in Junior House, which accommodates about 75 boarders. Dedicated staff ensure that all girls settle in well. Should a student experience any difficulties, she will be fully supported and, if necessary, arrangements can be made for her to see one of the school counsellors.
Wycombe Abbey: Admissions Process for 11 Plus (11+)/Year 7 Entry
Visiting Wycombe Abbey in person or online is a great way to learn more about the school. The school holds Open Mornings and Coffee Mornings, and you can arrange a private visit.
If you want your daughter to start Wycombe Abbey at the beginning of Year 7 (UIII), you will need to complete the online registration form and pay the £350 registration fee by the beginning of June when she is in Year 5.
Before November of Year 6, your daughter will need to sit the online ISEB Common Pre-test. This should be sat at her current school, a recognised test centre in the UK or at a local British Council Office. You will receive all the necessary information about this test from Wycombe Abbey.
In November of Year 6, your daughter will attend Assessment Day at Wycombe Abbey, during which she will be interviewed, participate in a group activity and take two exams (English and maths).
In addition to this, a reference will be requested from your daughter’s current school and will be reviewed as part of the admissions process.
In December of Year 6, firm offers will be made to candidates who have performed well throughout the admissions process and have demonstrated that they will make the most of all Wycombe Abbey has to offer.
If your daughter is offered a place and you decide to accept it, you will need to do so by the deadline in March of Year 6. You will also need to pay the acceptance deposit.
Wycombe Abbey: Scholarships and Bursaries
Wycombe Abbey offers Academic scholarships and exhibitions for 11+ entry. You do not need to apply for these – the school will invite selected candidates who have had a firm offer to sit the relevant exams in January of Year 6.
Music scholarships and exhibitions are also available for 11+ entry, as well as choral awards. An application form for these will need to be submitted by the start of September of the year before entry.
Bursaries are means-tested awards that can cover up to 100% of the school’s fees. They are offered to a limited number of girls who would benefit from an education at Wycombe Abbey but whose families are unable to afford the fees.

You will need to register your daughter for the ISEB Common Pre-test on the official website via the Guardian Portal.
Wycombe Abbey: 11 Plus (11+)/Year 7 ISEB Common Pre-Test Exam Format
The ISEB Common Pre-test assessment comprises the following areas:
- English – evaluates reading comprehension and grammar (using cloze sentences, shuffled sentences and SPaG question types).
- Mathematics – measures mathematical ability relative to the national curriculum stage.
- Verbal Reasoning – tests thinking and the ability to solve problems using words.
- Non-Verbal Reasoning – assesses thinking with shapes, space, diagrams and pictures.
In total, the four parts of the ISEB Common Pre-test take 2 hours and 15 minutes to administer and complete. There is no audio component to any of the tests.
Preparing for Wycombe Abbey 11 Plus (11+)/Year 7 ISEB Common Pre-Test
Preparing for the ISEB Common Pre-test will put your daughter in a strong position to do well.
We recommend devising a timetable that consists of short, regular study sessions, starting well in advance of the ISEB Common Pre-test. This will mean there is no last-minute panic.
Working through our ISEB Common Pre-test Practice Papers will be particularly helpful because they have been thoroughly researched so that they mirror the real ISEB Common Pre-test. This means your daughter will gain a deep understanding of the types of questions she will be asked in the real test, will know what the format will be like and will be familiar with the speed she needs to work at.
Furthermore, she can use the answers and explanations provided with the Practice Tests to identify any mistakes she makes and work out where she went wrong. This will lead to fewer mistakes, or maybe even none, being made in the real test. As they say, practice makes perfect!
