Introduction

Wycombe High School is a girls’ grammar based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. A popular school, it caters for approximately 1350 pupils from various backgrounds in line with the motto Fortiter, Fideliter, Feliciter (Courageously, Faithfully, Joyfully). [1]

Wycombe High offers a flexible curriculum, adjusted to the cohort’s individual needs for quality education. Languages, science, STEAM and PSHEE are just some of its features, complementing a broad provision that allows students to enhance their learning capacity.

Cookery, chess, athletics, drama, orchestra and DofE are among the many opportunities that underpin the school’s rich and thriving extracurricular programme. Trips abroad are organised regularly, allowing pupils to explore different cultural settings and spend some quality time with peers. [2]

According to OFSTED, Wycombe High operates in line with exemplary standards, hence the community of learners meets the school’s high expectations with ease. The intellectual, moral and social development of each child is at the heart of the ambitious ethos, resulting in strong outcomes that are well above the national standard.

Wycombe High School In-Year Entry (12 Plus & 13 Plus) Admissions Information – Annual Testing Route

The Wycombe High School standard point of entry is 11 Plus. However, the school also accepts applications from pupils interested in In-Year (Late) Entry.

To commence the admissions process, you should complete the In-Year application form and submit it to the school. There are two admissions routes:

  • Annual testing, taking place in January of the calendar year of entry
  • Immediate testing (for pupils moving into the area)

For the annual testing route, Wycombe High will assess pupils using an online test called CEM Select. This exam is created by the Centre of Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM), which is part of Cambridge Assessment.

Address: Marlow Road, High Wycombe, HP11 1TB

County: Buckinghamshire

Admissions info: [email protected] or 01494 523961

School type: Girls’ grammar school

Exam type / Board: CEM Select

As part of the assessment process for late transfer entry via the Annual testing route, your child will be asked to complete the CEM Select assessment.

The test contains a number of unusual question formats that your child is unlikely to have encountered before. These include drag and drop digits and sentence auto-completes.

The assessment will be divided into a series of highly time-pressured sections. Your child doesn’t necessarily need to complete all the questions in each section to do well.

The CEM Select assessment will cover the following areas:

  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning
  • Numerical Reasoning

The Verbal Reasoning section of the test assesses your child’s ability to solve problems using words, with a special focus on depth and breadth of vocabulary.

The Non-Verbal Reasoning section requires your child to solve problems using shapes and patterns with a main focus on one specific question type.

The Numerical Reasoning section assesses your child’s ability to solve problems using numbers and arithmetic.
