Introduction

Situated on a beautiful campus in Walthamstow, Forest School is one of the most in-demand independent schools in London. It caters for a mixed cohort of approximately 1,450 students, boasting a culture of high achievement and an ethos centred on the motto In Pectore Robur (Strength in the heart). [1]

In the Senior School, pupils are provided with a varied curriculum, relevant to the rapidly changing world and its complexities. Sciences, DT, modern languages, humanities and a range of further subject areas are taught using an exemplary teaching approach, enabling students to make the most out of the breadth of education on offer.

The enrichment provision is of the same standard, ensuring that pupils have a broad selection of co-curricular options to choose from. Debating, coding, drama, mythology, cricket, astronomy, swimming and theatre are just a few of the available opportunities, complementing a cutting-edge programme that aims to mould children into the leaders of tomorrow. [2]

Forest School places particular focus on outdoor education. Students enthusiastically engage in an array of challenging activities within the scope of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and CCF initiatives, acquiring valuable skills and supporting their communities while building firm, lasting friendships with peers.

Forest School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions Process

Families are kindly advised to visit the school prior to applying for a place. Open Day is typically held in September, including extensive tours of facilities and meetings with key members of staff.

The admissions process formally begins with registration, to be completed by the deadline in November of the year preceding entry. This step includes a payment of a non-refundable registration fee of £150 (£200 for oversea applicants).

As part of the 11+ entry procedure, your child will be asked to attend:

  • Entrance tests
  • An interview with a senior staff member
  • A collaborative task

Please note that references from their current school will also be taken into consideration.

The entrance tests will be held in January of the calendar year of entry. They are a combination of online and written assessments, measuring a broad range of skills and abilities. Offers are made in the following February, to be accepted by the deadline in March.

Scholarships, valued at up to 20% of annual fees, are offered for excellence in the areas of Academia, Music, Art, Drama and Sports. Scholars will be expected to set an example for other talented pupils and demonstrate leadership in all aspects of school life.

Bursaries are offered to families in financial need following a means-testing procedure. They can be combined with scholarships and provide a full (100%) remission of fees.

Assisted Places are available to students who have performed well in the entrance exams but did not qualify for a scholarship. These awards are means-tested and take into account your family’s level of financial need. Please click here to learn more.
