Introduction

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys is a selective grammar school in Altrincham, Greater Manchester. Dating back to 1912, it caters for over 1150 boys in line with the motto Labor Omnia Vincit (Work conquers all), providing for students’ strengths and interests through a rich curricular and co-curricular timetable. [1]

Commonly referred to as AGSB, the school boasts strong teaching provision. Lessons are delivered effectively, preparing pupils for future success in their chosen fields, whether that be sciences, humanities, languages or other.

The range of clubs and societies includes public speaking & debating, inclusivity groups and ecology clubs, as well as a selection of sports, such as hockey, badminton, tennis, football, volleyball and rugby. Instilling in pupils core British values, the school uses its enrichment programme to mould boys into tolerant and versatile citizens of the modern world. [2]

AGSB’s strong examination results underpin the effectiveness of the learning experience. Recently, 43% of Altrincham Grammar’s pupils achieved Grade 9, and 72% of all pupils achieved Grade 9/8.

Ofsted characterised AGSB as ‘Outstanding’, mainly due to its extensive provision, comprehensive pastoral care and staff’s active efforts to meet individual needs. The personalised approach to teaching and the exceptional standards of academic prowess have helped the school establish a renowned reputation.

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys Late Entry (12+ & 13+) Admissions Information

The CAT4 (or Cognitive Abilities Test 4) is an aptitude test developed by GL Assessment.

Test scores will be standardised, taking into consideration your child’s date of birth. For 12+ and 13+ applicants, the minimum qualifying score in the assessment is 360. Looked After and previously Looked After Children, as well as those in receipt of Pupil Premium, will need to achieve a minimum score of 339 in order to be considered for entry.
