Introduction

George Heriot’s School is an independent day school based in the Old Town of Edinburgh, Scotland. Opened in 1659, it has educated a vast number of notable alumni, including esteemed mathematicians, professors, activists and architects. [1]

The S1 curriculum features a rich selection of subject options, ranging from Latin, DT and science to computing, history and MFL. The majority of students access further education at prestigious universities, thus the school places great emphasis on maintaining the relevance of the academic provision, alongside the superb quality of teaching.

Beyond the classroom, pupils are encouraged to try out new things and make the most out of the varied extracurricular offering. Everything from CCF, Chinese Chess and Amnesty International to Astronomy Club, drama and Feminist Society is available, underpinning a vibrant school life that facilitates all-round growth in parallel with lasting friendships. [2]

One of Scotland’s leading independent schools, George Heriot’s educates the whole child in line with the staff’s high standards and parents’ growing expectations. Students of all backgrounds are welcome to benefit from its welcoming environment, which, as a rule, encourages moral and social awareness, actively preparing the cohort for the demands of modern-day citizenship.
