Introduction
Old Swinford Hospital (OSH) is a co-ed secondary school in Stourbridge, West Midlands. Operational since the 17th century, it is one of the 36 state boarding schools in the country. Admission into Year 7 is non-selective, with the exception of flexi-boarders. [1]
Benefitting from a well-integrated curriculum, pupils study a range of subject options that maximise their academic qualifications. Effective lessons are delivered for Mandarin, mathematics, science and technology, among others, adding up to the lively and competitive character of the learning environment.
To provide an exemplary educational experience, OSH offers a stimulating co-curricular programme that encompasses everything from debating, CCF and STEM Club to fencing, outdoor learning and Young Rotarian. Charitable and fundraising opportunities are pursued with vigour, resulting in a warm community of compassionate and mature young adults who exhibit considerable amounts of moral integrity. [2]
Pivotal to the OSH constructive provision is a strong ethos that encourages both collaborative and individual achievements. Children are inspired to make their contribution to the welcoming atmosphere that pervades campus, hence friendships are firm and outcomes are distinctive, built on trust and positive relationships with staff.
11 Plus (11+) Flexi-Boarding Admissions Information | Old Swinford Hospital
The deadline for application for flexi-boarding places is in October of the year preceding entry. Prior to registering, the school advises prospective families to attend an open event, held in September, during which they will learn more about the admissions process and OSH’s educational philosophy.
Besides completing the school’s registration form, you should also complete the Common Application Form (CAF), include OSH as your preferred school and submit it to the Local Authority.
For flexi-boarders, entry can be through academic Ability Tests or Musical / Sports Aptitude. The ability tests are held in the Autumn term of Year 6. In the case of a tie, priority will be given to a looked after child or previously looked after child.
