Introduction

Harrow International School Appi Japan, opened in 2022, occupies a beautiful campus located in Iwate Prefecture. It caters for full-boarding students aged 11-18, aiming to replicate the provision, standards and experiences provided by the esteemed Harrow School in the UK. Harrow Appi employs the British curriculum and is set to produce outstanding academic outcomes, which are competitive on a global level. [1]

The school has all that is required to excel in preparing students for higher education, offering a tailored educational approach and a diverse array of subject choices, including economics, computer science, art & design, accounting and media studies. In this way, Harrow Appi is a superb addition to the Harrow family, both challenging and engaging its students.

The co-curricular provision is just as exciting, featuring a rich selection of activities that maximise pupils’ learning. Ranging from photography, choir and coding to chess, astronomy and debating, the programme offers something for everyone, broadening students’ horizons in the effort to prepare them for the opportunities of the wider world. [2]

Harrow Appi’s House system completes the educational experience, with individual Houses hosting a number of events throughout the academic year. These events include Sports Days, Charity Events and Dance, Music and Sports Competitions, enhancing the healthy competitive quality of school life and promoting a spirit of community within each House.

School trivia: After classes, Harrow Appi offers additional supervised study sessions and focused academic support. Older students have the option to request tutoring in any of their IGCSE or A-Level subjects, and these extra lessons, provided by fully qualified teaching staff, are included in the boarding fee.

Harrow International School Appi Japan 16 Plus (16+) Entry Admissions Process

Harrow Appi doesn’t have a registration deadline, and applications are accepted throughout the year. However, to secure a student’s place at the school, an application form should be completed by January of the calendar year of entry, as places are limited to ensure a favourable pupil to teacher ratio. The online form can be accessed through this page.

Upon submitting the form, all 16+ candidates will be invited to the school to sit an online test, consisting of two parts:

– Online test (90 minutes, CAT4)

– Online English writing test (20 minutes)

If a student performs well in the assessment, they will be invited to have an online or face-to-face interview with the Head or another senior Harrow educator. Subject to a successful performance in the tests and positive conduct during the interview, a student may receive an offer of a place, which should be accepted within a week.

Throughout the admissions process, the following fees are payable:

– Application fee of 22,000 JPY

– Enrolment fee of 772,000 JPY

– School deposit of 440,000 JPY for applicants not requiring visa support

– School deposit of 880,000 JPY for applicants requiring visa support

Academic scholarships are currently being reviewed, and means-tested bursaries, that provide a reduction in fees, are only available to existing students.
