Introduction

One of the seven ‘King’s Schools’ established by King Henry VIII, King’s Chester is an independent establishment that caters for a mixed cohort of day pupils. Many notable personalities constitute its alumni list, including renowned scientists, journalists and authors. [1]

Supporting students to attain their academic goals, King’s curriculum maximises skills across a myriad of areas, including languages, science and humanities. The school embraces new technologies and nurtures intellectual curiosity, ensuring that each member of its learning community excels.

Over 130 enrichment activities are also on offer, providing for both individual expression and skill acquisition. These include fencing, swimming, MUN, coding, debating and chess, facilitating the cohort’s social development in line with the school’s efforts to inspire a sense of purpose, motivation and achievement. [2]

A reputable institution, King’s endeavours to provide a safe environment where children can develop profound emotional intelligence. This quality aims to prepare them for a world of complexities that is constantly changing, and equip them with the attributes necessary to successfully navigate it.

The entrance exam takes place in January of the calendar year of entry. As part of the admissions process, your child will also attend an interview with a senior member of staff.

Shortlisted candidates will receive an offer on the basis of an exam and interview performance and the quality of the current school reference. To secure your child’s place, you will be asked to return a completed acceptance form and pay a deposit.

Following a thorough means-testing procedure, some pupils from low-income families will be considered for a bursary. This award provides financial assistance towards paying the fees and the deadline for applications is in November (of the year preceding entry).
