Introduction

UKiset is an online assessment used by many UK independent schools; it forms part of the selection process for international students who wish to gain a place at a leading independent school. It is designed to test an international student’s ability to thrive in an English-speaking study environment and is currently used by over 180 British schools.

 

Here, we provide a list of some British preparatory and senior schools that use the UKiset test.

Bede’s Prep and Senior School

Bede’s Preparatory and Senior School is a co-educational, independent day and boarding school, open to pupils aged between 4 and 19 years. Bede’s Prep School was founded in 1895, with Bede’s Senior School being established in 1979. Located in Eastbourne, with beautiful views of the Sussex Downs, Bede’s has a good reputation both as a top UK prep and senior school.

Bishopstrow College

 

Established in 2006 in the town of Warminster, Bishopstrow College is a residential study centre for international students aged between 7 and 17 years. The College offers pupils a dedicated English language programme, which aims to prepare international students for entry into leading, independent schools. The College welcomes up to 80 international students each term and prides itself on offering a diverse culture for learning.

Brentwood School

Brentwood School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 3 – 18 years. Located in Essex, it was founded in 1557. Academically a leading UK independent school, Brentwood also provides a vast selection of club and extra-curricular activities for students to take part in throughout the school year.

Bruton School for Girls

Based in Somerset, Bruton School for Girls is an independent girls’ day and boarding school for pupils aged 3 to 18. Dean Close School

 

Established in 1886, Dean Close School is a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged between 2 – 18 years. A Christian school, Dean Close is located in central Cheltenham within 50 acres of parkland. The school offers some excellent facilities, including a professional theatre, dance studio and 25m indoor pool.

Downside School

 

The leading Roman Catholic independent school in the UK, Downside is a co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 11 to 18. Established in 1606 and situated in Stratton-on-the-Fosse, the school is run by lay staff and Benedictine monks from the historic Downside Abbey, which is adjacent to the school.

Ellesmere College

 

Located between Chester and Shrewsbury, Ellesmere College opened in August 1884. An independent, co-educational day and boarding school, it is open to students aged 7 to 18. Ellesmere College is also a Woodard School, having been founded by Nathaniel Woodard, a Church of England priest. With its innovative outlook, Ellesmere College pupils are actively encouraged to have a range of interests outside of the classroom.

Headington School

 

Open to girls aged 3 to 18 years, Headington School is a day and boarding school situated in the heart of Oxford. Founded in 1915 by a group of evangelical Christians, the school opened with just 18 students; today, there are approximately 1,000 students at Headington. Alongside a strict academic timetable, pupils can also participate in an extensive extra-curricular programme.

The only Catholic boarding senior school in Scotland, Kilgraston is an independent boarding and day school for girls up to the age of 18. With a rich cultural mix of students, Kilgraston has a solid reputation for attracting pupils from across the globe.
