Introduction

Wycliffe College is a co-educational independent school in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. Founded in 1882, it educates day and boarding pupils in line with the motto Bold and Loyal and boasts an impressive list of notable alumni, including surgeons, businesspeople, scientists and authors. [1]

Member of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), the College offers a relevant curriculum. The academic provision is firmly supported by staff’s efforts to encourage intellectual curiosity, catering for pupils’ scientific, mathematical and linguistic interests to the full.

Lessons for humanities, technology and arts are also delivered. Alongside enrichment activities, they help boost pupils’ versatility, preparing them for the challenges of modern life. Cookery, Chinese, debating, hockey, fencing, rowing and textiles are just a few of the extracurriculars on offer, maximising students’ experiential learning for the benefit of their all-round growth. [2]

The pastoral care provision is aimed at effectively addressing pupils’ setbacks. Form tutors, Heads of Houses and the Director of Pastoral Care are some of the key staff members who ensure that the pastoral care is rooted in successful strategies, prioritising the individual by recognising the unique nature of their needs and problems. [3]

With over a third of Wycliffe College’s recent grades being awarded in the top 9-7 range and a significant 80% of pupils achieving grade 5 or higher, the school stands out as an institution where students are encouraged and equipped to perform at their best. This dedication to high standards is a testament to both staff’s commitment and students’ hard work, underpinning a lively yet competitive ethos that places achievement at the heart of all endeavours.
