Situated in London, the school operates under the motto Et virtutem et musas, which translates as ‘Instilling values, inspiring minds’. It boasts a proud history and caters for both day and boarding pupils, offering a rich range of cutting edge facilities for this purpose. [1]
Mill Hill is committed to fostering intellectual growth and curiosity among its students. This is reflected in the school’s dynamic academic programme, which is designed to support pupils’ interests across a diverse range of disciplines, including science, arts, mathematics, technology and humanities.
With a firm belief in a well-rounded education, Mill Hill’s co-curricular programme is designed to enhance students’ cultural, physical and social development. The pastoral team at Mill Hill is dedicated to the vital task of safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of students. This commitment is deeply ingrained and frequently identified as a pillar of strength within the school’s community, fostering a nurturing environment that’s not only caring and supportive but also empathetic towards the unique struggles of adolescence.
The overall provision at Mill Hill is far more than just reactive: it extends to proactive measures such as educational programmes, mental health support and various initiatives to help students cope with any setbacks. This fosters exceptional growth in personal development and manifests solid academic achievements, as demonstrated by the fact that more than 60% of recent grades were within the superior 9-7 range.
Mill Hill School 13 Plus (13+) Deferred Entry Admissions Process
The school usually welcomes interested families to the site during the spring and autumn Open Mornings. At these events, you and your child can explore the extensive facilities and engage in casual discussions with senior members of staff. If you wish to register your attendance, visit this page.
The 13+ deferred entry process begins with registration, to be completed by the November deadline, while your child is in Year 6. This will make your child eligible for the entrance examinations, held later in the same month.
The entrance test involves an online assessment known as the Stage One exam. Candidates who perform well in this stage will then be invited to participate in the Stage Two assessments.
During Stage Two assessments, your child will have a chance to visit the school, attend an interview with a senior staff member, complete an English writing paper and participate in a teamwork activity.
Offers are made in February and you’ll be asked to confirm your acceptance by the March deadline. Please note that securing your child’s place at Mill Hill requires a deposit payment.
Mill Hill School offers various academic awards to top-performing candidates in entrance examinations. Academic Scholarships are granted to those excelling in most scholarship interviews, Academic Exhibitions to solid overall performers, and subject-specific Exhibitions are offered to those standing out in respective subject interviews, including the Headmaster’s interview. The school also recognises talents in Art, Drama, Music and Sport through separate awards.
For families requiring financial support, Mill Hill provides bursaries, based on confidential financial disclosures from families. These are means-tested and subject to annual review to adjust to any changes in your financial circumstances. Please reach out to the school for more details on bursaries.
