Founded in 1939, St Columba’s College is an independent day school in St Albans, Hertfordshire. It was originally an all-boys school, moving to co-education in recent years. Centred on a Roman Catholic ethos, the school educates in line with the motto Cor ad Cor Loquitur (Heart speaketh to heart).
The curriculum in the Senior School is aimed at maximising pupils’ span of skills and knowledge, providing for their inquisitiveness through a structured programme of engaging and inspirational lessons. Featuring computer science, DT, STEM, physical education, music and many other options, the syllabus ensures that the cohort is firmly supported as they move on to further education.
Their sporting, artistic and cultural potential is further developed through a rich timetable of extras. Whether it be drama, chess, Duke of Edinburgh Award or Combined Cadet Force, the activities on offer allow children to grow in strong awareness of their own abilities and maximise their self-esteem in the process.
Pastorally, the school caters for students in a comprehensive manner, enhancing their emotional intelligence within a tight-knit community where individual needs are a priority. The programme covers a range of areas vital to the cohort’s welfare, including mental health, careers, relationships and the use of modern technology, with particular emphasis on social media.
