Introduction

St Peter’s is a co-educational independent school based in the heart of York. Catering for both day and boarding pupils on its magnificent 50-acre campus, the establishment produces outstanding examination results, competitive on a national level. [1]

The curriculum at St Peter’s is designed to embody the school’s dedication to holistic education, encompassing an expansive array of subjects, including humanities, languages, technology and science. Pupils are encouraged to adopt a growth mindset and learn from their mistakes, turning each failure into an opportunity for intellectual enhancement.

With over 70 co-curricular activities on offer, St Peter’s stands out amongst its competition. The breadth of the programme ensures strong non-academic outcomes, engaging children in everything from swimming, cricket and Eco Club to Folk String Group, drama and cross country. Trips to distant destinations are organised regularly, allowing the cohort to experience different cultural settings and explore the landmarks of Venice, Barcelona and other exciting destinations. [2]

St Peter’s 8-13 has five houses, each hosting approximately 70 pupils from various age groups. The pastoral and mentoring system at the school, coupled with the ‘Seven Values‘ framework, ensures that the happiness and well-being of each student remains central to all its endeavours. To pupils with specific learning and educational needs, St Peter’s extends group or individual support through its Learning Support Department, where highly qualified and experienced teachers work diligently to provide tailored interventions and strategies.

With all this and much more on offer, St Peter’s demonstrates its commitment to crafting educational pathways that not only prepare pupils for rewarding and successful adult lives but also inspire them to exert a positive influence on others. As expected, the school was awarded the highest rating of ‘Excellent’ by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) during their most recent inspection.
