Introduction

One of the top-performing schools nationally, Wycombe Abbey is an independent establishment that caters for both boarding and day pupils. Its magnificent 69 hectare campus in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, occupies Grade II* listed buildings and fosters a vigorous ethos, grounded in the motto In fide vade (Go in faith). [1]

The Sixth Form curriculum is designed to help students form a firm foundation of relevant knowledge before they proceed with further education. Within the scope of it, girls get to choose from computer science, Chinese, design technology, psychology, sciences and economics, among others, engaging in large-scale learning that’s both challenging and inspiring.

Beyond the curriculum, the cohort benefits from an equally extensive provision, consisting of various extras that complement the wealth of the educational journey. Clubs and societies range from astronomy, drama and public speaking to politics, sustainability and law, maximising non-academic development as part of a Wycombe Abbey’s fundamentally holistic approach to educating. [2]

Encouraged to approach study with an open mind, girls take every opportunity to engage in focused in-class lessons and succeed in non-academic pursuits, benefitting from exceptional standards of provision across both areas. As they develop into inquisitive thinkers, they also adopt reflection and determination as central to the values that have characterised Wycombe Abbey’s learning community for over 120 years. [3]

16+ (16 Plus) Exam Format | Wycombe Abbey

The first section of the UKiset assessment will cover Vocabulary, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Mathematical Reasoning.

  • The Vocabulary section examines problem-solving skills using words.

  • The Non-Verbal Reasoning section covers problem-solving using shapes and patterns, rather than words.

  • The Mathematical Reasoning section tests the ability to solve problems using numbers.

The other two sections consist of:

1) Linguaskill

2) English Essay

Linguaskill is a multiple-choice test that measures your child’s English level in reading and listening. It helps schools to assess how easily they will be able to access the UK curriculum.

The English Essay is a piece of expressive writing on a topic assigned on the day of the test. It aims to demonstrate your child’s ability to express their opinion and communicate in written English. Click here for tips on how to prepare for this assessment.
