Introduction

Dubai College (DC), established in 1978, is a selective, co-educational British school in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The school deservedly has an excellent reputation. Its not-for-profit status means school fees are reinvested in the students and the school, enabling DC to provide top-quality teaching and state-of-the-art facilities and resources to its students.

Boasting an impressive academic history, the College actively prepares students for life beyond school by giving them opportunities to develop their problem-solving skills and encouraging them to think critically and creatively. Furthermore, the curriculum is tailored to reflect the school’s commitment to educating the whole child, covering a wide range of subjects, such as science, Arabic, drama, computer science and digital skills. Recently, a staggering 92% of GCSE grades were in the 9-7 range.

DC encourages pupils to fully engage in its extra-curricular programme, recognising that participation helps students develop into confident, well-rounded young people. There are over 200 activities on offer, enabling students to enhance their existing skills and discover new talents. Available clubs include Crochet Club, Musical Theatre Club, Running Club and Sustainability Club.

In line with its ambitious vision to lead British education overseas, the College endeavours to unlock students’ maximum potential, preparing them for both immediate challenges and long-term success. DC recognises the critical role parents play in achieving this and therefore aspires to involve them fully in their child’s educational journey.

Overall, Dubai College is more than just a school – its name is synonymous with educational excellence, community involvement and lifelong learning. Offering the best of British education and so much more, the establishment not only prepares students for top British universities but also positions them well for careers with organisations and employers in a global context.

Dubai College: Year 7 (11+) Entry Admissions Process

If your child is in Year 6 and you are thinking of applying to Dubai College, the school warmly invites you to attend one of their Audience with the Head sessions and to visit during their Open Week. The Audience with the Head sessions are in September and give you the chance to find out more about the school’s entrance exam. Open Week is in October and attending enables you to have a guided tour of the school, meaning you can get a real insight into what life is like at DC. Booking is essential.

Applications for Year 7 places open in September of the year preceding entry, and the fee is AED 100 + VAT. The deadline for submitting application forms is in late October. All applicants will be invited to sit the entrance assessment that takes place in November.

As part of the admissions process, your child will be formally assessed using an online test, for which there is a fee of AED 400 + VAT. For students who are registered with an Arab nationality or who wish to study Arabic A at DC, Arabic A will also be assessed. Results will be communicated in January.

Please note that the College will request school reports and results from CAT4, GL Progress Tests or other baseline assessments to assist them in the selection process. DC looks favourably on students who not only meet the academic admissions criteria but also excel in creative arts and/or sports.

Dubai College: Contact Details and Exam Information for Year 7 (11+) Entry

Address: Dubai College PO Box 837, Dubai

Admissions info: +971 4 3999111

School type: Independent co-educational school

Open Week: October

Exam type / Board: InCAS or AAT

As part of the assessment process for Year 7 entry, your child will be asked to complete the InCAS assessment or the AAT (Adaptive Admissions Test). The AAT was used last year, but the InCAS assessment was used prior to this. This means it is best to prepare for either eventuality.

InCAS

InCAS features a number of unique question types and formats that your child may not be familiar with. For instance, some questions require listening to audio instructions, while others involve interacting with diagrams to test both memory and spatial awareness.

Dubai College: Year 7 (11+) Entry InCAS Online Test Format

The InCAS assessment covers the following areas:

Mathematics (20-25 minutes)

  1. The first section, called Number 1, includes counting, fractions and decimals.
  2. The second section, called Number 2, includes patterns, problem solving and algebra.
  3. The third section covers measures, shape and space.
  4. The fourth section covers data handling.

Mental Arithmetic (15-20 minutes)

The Mental Arithmetic section assesses your child’s ability to perform arithmetic calculations without the use of paper, a pencil, a calculator or other aids.

Reading (20-25 minutes)

  1. In the Word Recognition section, pupils will hear a word and a sentence that puts that word into context. They must then select this word from a choice of five words.
  2. In Word Decoding, they will hear a made-up or unfamiliar word. They must then select this word from a choice of five words.
  3. In the Comprehension section, there is a passage to be read and, when given a choice of three words, pupils must select the word that fits into the sentence most appropriately.

Spelling (15-20 minutes)

Audio will play, giving a word followed by a sentence with that word in it, and your child will then need to correctly spell out the word that was used in the audio.

Developed Ability (20-25 minutes)

  1. In the Picture Vocabulary section, pupils are asked to select the picture that best represents the word that they hear in an audio recording.
  2.  In the Non-Verbal Ability section, a pattern appears on one side of the screen, and your child will be asked to find the same pattern within a larger pattern on the other side of the screen.

Dubai College: Year 7 Entry InCAS Preparation

Our InCAS practice tests are highly accurate, making your child’s preparation both focused and effective.

Each module is timed, meaning that your child will become familiar with the time constraints of the InCAS test and get better at working quickly and accurately when under time pressure.

The tests include answers and explanations, meaning your child can learn from any mistakes they make.

We provide statistical averages drawn from the performance of other students who have taken the same practice test. This gives you an insight into how your child’s performance compares to that of their peers.
