Introduction
Established in 1877 as a school for boys exclusively, St George’s School is currently an all girls’ day and boarding establishment situated in Ascot, Berkshire. Its notable alumni list features former prime minister Winston Churchill and many members of the British aristocracy. [1]
Competitive and stimulating, the school’s academic programme offers a relevant education, underpinned by a varied curriculum that boasts languages, sciences, technology and economics, among others. Qualified staff enrich the learning experience, while cutting edge facilities ensure that the provision extends well beyond the national average.
Both pastorally and co-curricularly, St George’s maintains high standards and tailors its offering accordingly.
The majority of after-class clubs aim to boost pupils’ non-academic abilities, ranging from orchestra, swimming and athletics to History of Art, board games and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Through the DofE initiative, girls grow in resourcefulness and resilience, maximising the benefits of teamwork as opposed to solely investing in individual efforts. [2]
As part of the school’s educational philosophy, students at St George’s are encouraged to explore their abilities without fear of failing. The school champions individuality, embedding optimism and enthusiasm in the cohort’s understanding of the world as they engage in the complex process of self-discovery.
