Introduction

Trent College is an independent boarding and day school in Long Eaton, Nottingham. Its Infant and Junior School, The Elms, is a popular co-educational establishment where pupils thrive both academically and personally. There are approximately 330 pupils in The Elms, catered for in line with high pastoral and teaching standards.

Supported by a comprehensive curriculum, the academic programme is designed to maximise pupils’ intellectual potential. Through engaging lessons, professional staff ensure that children develop firm knowledge in key disciplines, such as maths, languages and natural sciences, enabling the cohort to progress through the school with a genuine love of learning.

The Elms occupies a 45-acre campus, where an array of enrichment activities also take place. The school champions outdoor education, allowing students to become familiar with the wonders of the natural world and expand their environmental awareness through play, study and adventure.

Furthermore, The Elms offers a plethora of clubs that pupils can participate in, ranging from dance and karate to chess and Spanish. These activities, along with many others, assist learners in uncovering their strengths and, at the same time, foster the development of enduring friendships.

School trivia: In Year 6, every child is given the opportunity to assume the role of a school prefect, a position of great importance within the establishment’s community. Prefects play an integral role, with responsibilities that extend well beyond the classroom. Their duties include assisting teachers in the playground and guiding younger pupils to the dining hall. The Elms 10 Plus (10+) Exam Admissions Information

Prior to applying for a 10+ place on behalf of your child, it’s a good idea to visit the school. Open Mornings take place in March and October. Private tours can be scheduled through this page, allowing you and your child to explore The Elms’s offerings through meetings with staff and tours of the facilities.

Registering is completed online, and the fee is £60. As part of the admissions process, The Elms will look into the quality of a report and reference from your child’s school, as well as their results in an online assessment and a short creative writing exercise. There may also be an interview, conducted by a member of senior staff.

The tests are relaxed and informal, and they take place on Taster Day, scheduled separately for each applicant. Alternatively, they can be taken on a different day if requested. If your child receives an offer, you will be asked to accept it with a payment of a £200 deposit, which is refunded when your child leaves The Elms.

Pupils who achieve the necessary academic criteria for admission but come from low-income families can be considered for a means-tested bursary. The school’s bursary programme allows pupils from different socio-economic backgrounds to benefit from its high-quality education.

If you are interested in applying for a bursary, please indicate your interest on the registration form. Subsequently, you will receive a bursary application form and may be invited to an interview with the Bursar. Please note that bursaries are subject to means testing and are re-evaluated annually.
