Introduction
The British International School of Jeddah is an independent co-ed school established in 1977 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Also known as BISJ or the Continental School (Conti), it offers a British-style curriculum and boasts a beautiful campus that features an array of amenities, including two music rooms, four computer rooms, eight science laboratories, a gymnasium, a multi-purpose hall, three libraries, two pools and an outside sports area. BISJ doesn’t hold formal open events, but it encourages all prospective families to book a tour prior to applying for a place. During the tour, you and your child will have the opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art facilities and meet key staff members.

At Conti, the following fees are payable:
– SAR 403 for the application
– SAR 978 for the entrance assessment
– SAR 17,250 for the entrance fee

As part of the assessment process for Year 9 entry, your child will be asked to complete an online test produced by the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM), which is likely to resemble the CEM Select assessment.
The CEM Select assessment contains a number of unusual question formats that your child is unlikely to have encountered before. These include drag-and-drop and sentence auto-completes.
The assessment will be divided into a series of highly time-pressured sections. Your child doesn’t necessarily need to complete all the questions in each section to do well.

The Conti 13+ CEM assessment will cover the following areas:
- Verbal Ability
- Non-Verbal Ability
- Numerical Ability
The Verbal Ability section of the test assesses your child’s ability to solve problems using words, with a special focus on depth and breadth of vocabulary.
The Non-Verbal Ability section requires your child to solve problems using shapes and patterns, with a focus on one specific question type.
The Numerical Ability section assesses your child’s ability to solve problems using numbers and arithmetic.
