Introduction:
Doha College is a British international school in Doha for children aged 3-18. It opened in 1980 with 85 pupils and occupied a 10-room villa. In 2020, it moved to its new home — a modern, purpose-built campus in Al Wajba. Nowadays, over 2,700 students attend Doha College.
Results in public exams are a testament to Doha College’s committed teachers and hard-working pupils. In 2024, 67% of IGCSE grades were in the 9-7 range, and 83% of A Level grades were in the A*-B range. Unsurprisingly, many school leavers secure places at prestigious universities.
Doha College is rightly proud of its Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme, viewing CCAs as a crucial part of its holistic education that enables pupils to grow into well-rounded young people. Available activities include fitness, chess, baking and orchestra.
The house system at Doha College creates a strong sense of belonging, fostering friendships across all year groups. Additionally, house competitions enhance teamwork skills, with cooperation being key to success.

Admissions Process for Entry to Years 3-10 and Year 12 at Doha College
Visiting Doha College is the best way to start the admissions process so you can check that it feels like the right school for your child. You can request a visit via the Doha College website.
The next step is to complete the online application form, which will include uploading specific documents, such as a copy of your child’s passport, immunisation records and most recent school report. You must also pay a non-refundable application fee of QR 200.
Once you have done this, the admissions office will contact you to arrange for your child to sit the entrance exam, the CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test), at Doha College. If it is not possible for your child to attend Doha College for the CAT4, you can contact the school to arrange remote access.
Applicants for Years 3-6 will also have a sample of their writing reviewed. Applicants for Years 7-10 will sit an English writing paper if it is considered necessary, and applicants for Year 12 will have to provide mock exam results and predicted grades.
If you are applying for a place in Years 3-9, your child can start mid-year; however, for Years 10 and 12, your child must start at the beginning of the school year. Applications for Year 11 are not accepted because this is halfway through GCSE courses, and applications for Year 13 are not accepted because this is halfway through A Level courses.
Please note that there is a QR 500 assessment fee.
You will find out your child’s CAT4 result around two weeks after they have taken the test. If they reach the required standard and have a glowing report from their current school, they will be offered a place if one is available. If one isn’t available, they will be put on the waiting list.

The CAT4 for Admission to Years 3-10 and Year 12 at Doha College
The CAT4 comprises multiple-choice questions that cover four areas:
- The verbal reasoning questions will assess how well your child can interpret language and reason with words. They may, for example, be given five words and have to pick the two words that do not fit with the others.
- The non-verbal reasoning questions will evaluate your child’s ability to analyse shapes to solve problems. They may, for example, be presented with a group of shapes and have to select the shape from the five answer choices that goes with the group.
- The quantitative reasoning questions will assess your child’s problem-solving skills using numbers. They may, for example, have to find the next number in a series by working out how the given numbers relate to each other.
- The spatial reasoning questions will require your child to solve problems by mentally moving shapes around. They may, for example, have to imagine what a folded piece of paper with holes in it will look like when it is unfolded.
The CAT4 has different levels for different year groups. Typically, schools use the following levels:
Level X for candidates in Year 2
Level Y for candidates in Year 3
Level A for candidates in Year 4
Level B for candidates in Year 5
Level C for candidates in Year 6
Level D for candidates in Year 7
Level E for candidates in Year 8
Level F for candidates in Year 9 or 10
Level G for candidates in Year 11 or 12
However, Doha College does use one level higher than is typical for some year groups. When you start the admissions process, you can confirm which level your child will take.
It can be challenging to know how to prepare for an entrance exam, which is why we have compiled some tips for you.
Preparation Tips for Doha College’s CAT4 for Admission to Years 3-10 and Year 12
Preparation is essential for competitive entrance exams, as it could make all the difference between being offered a place or not. Here are our top tips:
-
- Wellbeing. If your child eats healthily, gets plenty of sleep and exercises regularly, their emotional and physical wellbeing will be supported, which will help them cope with the exam preparation process.
- Balance. Exam preparation should be a part of your child’s life, but not at the expense of doing activities they enjoy and having time to relax. If studying takes over, it can feel overwhelming.
- Growth mindset. Talk to your child about the importance of a growth mindset — the belief that hard work pays off because our abilities improve with practice, given that they are not set in stone. This positive attitude will help your child stay motivated.
- Reading. Please encourage your child to read widely to enhance their vocabulary and reading comprehension.
- Practice tests. Use our CAT4 practice tests so your child knows what to expect on assessment day and is proficient at answering the types of questions that will come up. Our practice tests closely mirror the CAT4, so your child can work through them to get used to the format and timings. They can also learn from their mistakes using our answers and explanations, leading to a polished performance on the day.
