Introduction

 

Twyford Church of England High School, commonly referred to as Twyford C of E High School, is a co-ed academy school in Acton, west London. Established in 1954, it occupies a beautiful Baroque country villa and boasts an ‘Outstanding’ rating by OFSTED. [1]

 

Fostering high academic standards, Twyford High provides a relevant curriculum that features everything from music and computing to DT and social sciences. Learning takes place within a supportive environment, underpinned by staff’s active efforts to cater for pupils of various abilities.

Twyford Church of England High School 11+ Admissions Information

 

Open Evenings at Twyford C of E High School are held in autumn, allowing prospective families to visit the campus and discover everything on offer through guided tours and informal meetings with staff. There will also be an address from the Head, during which you will hear more about the school’s rich history and tradition. 

 

All 11+ applicants must be registered for entry to the school using the local authority’s Common Application Form. Twyford’s admissions number is 190, out of which:

 

  • 150 are designated as Foundation (Christian) places
  • 21 are designated as World Faith places
  • 19 are designated as Music places.

 

On the basis of the above categories, parents will be asked to complete the relevant Supplementary Information Form.

As part of the assessment process for Year 7 entry, your child will be asked to complete a banding test called CAT4. 

 

Based on performance in this test, schools can judge pupils’ progress over the academic year and hence decide on their setting and streaming (according to ability). 

 

This assessment is an effective way for schools to understand pupils’ strengths and weaknesses and to personalise learning and adapt teaching.

The CAT4 assessment will cover Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning.

 

  • The Verbal Reasoning section examines problem-solving skills using words.

 

  • The Non-Verbal Reasoning section covers problem-solving using shapes and patterns, rather than words.

 

  • The Spatial Reasoning section assesses your child’s ability to identify shapes and how they change. 

 

  • The Quantitative Reasoning section tests their ability to solve problems using numbers.
